Thousands of Jobs, Hundreds of Job Boards, Who’s Hiring Now!
WG tends to believe that there’s a lot more to job-hunting than trolling the job boards but this article from Career Alley is nonetheless very interesting:
Thousands of jobs? Hundreds of Job Boards? It may sound like a lot, but I kid you not (no pun intended) and I did get your attention. If you leverage any of the top job boards, you will know that they each list hundreds of thousands of jobs. And if you’ve ever done a search on job boards you will know that there are hundreds out there. The vast majority of these sites are not very useful, so you do need to focus on those that will help. In this post I review (yet one more time lest we forget) a few of the top search boards (and a few not as well known) and where I think you may want to consider focusing. I know for a fact that many companies are now leveraging these sites directly in their search for talent (and in order to save recruiter’s fees).
LinkedIn- Okay, if you’re not “linkedin” by now you are definitely not with it. I originally reviewed LinkedIn in the post Are you LinkedIn? and it is worth reading this post, but LinkedIn has grown a lot since the post. It is now considered the best site for quality candidates and as a result many companies start their candidate search here. Additionally, LinkedIn is an excellent source for job search. Once you’ve joined, click Jobs at the top of the site for the simple job search engine (keywords, country, postal code). Clicking Advanced Job Search for a broader range of search options. There are thousands of jobs (the theme for this post) posted via LinkedIn.
The Highest Ranked Job Search Sites (Google) – This is a great link, as it shows the highest ranked job search sites (as per Google), a few of which I provide more detail below. You will note that it is a fairly long list (and you will want to start at the top). The other great thing about this link is that it also provides links to Executive Search, Entry Level and Internships, Job Fairs and more. Now, you should note that, just because a site has a high Google ranking does not necessarily mean it is the best site. So what are some of the best sites, see below for a few.
Indeed.com - This is one of the best sites at the moment and, according to their site, more than 706,000 jobs were added in the last 7 days (and that is not a typo) – thousands of jobs, just as I promised. The first page is a very simple interface, two choices What and Where. You can also click on the Advanced Search which provides a broad range of search options. There are additional links at the bottom for Job Trends, Salaries and Forums. And , you don’t have to post your resume on this site.
Recruiters Online - “Your key to the hidden job market” is the tag line for this job search site. A very simple first page – Search Jobs, Post or Edit your Resume, and Find a Recruiter. Click on Search Jobs for their very interesting search engine. They provide examples of how you can leverage their job search engine by leveraging keywords. Click Find a Recruiter (at the top of the screen if you are not on the main page). The page lists a few featured recruiters with a search engine on the right hand side. Enter your criteria and the search engine will return a list of recruiters.
Job-Hunt.org - “Help and links to 12,096 Employers & Job Search Resources” is the tag line for this resource site. Not sure how they got such an exact number, but this site is filled with valuable information. Where to start? The top of the page has a drop down box so that you can review resources by state. The left hand side of the page has Layoff Help, Getting Started (too many links to list here) and links to relevant articles. The center of the page has Job Search News and Job Search Sites and Career Resources. Click on any state from the drop down box and you are immediately transferred to a page which is full of information regarding jobs for your state. This site is definitely worth spending time on and reviewing all of the resources available.
Good luck in your search.

CollegeRecruiter.com is a member of the International Association of Colleges and Employers (IAEWS), the trade association for job boards. According to our executive director, Peter Weddle, there are 50,000 job boards which target U.S. candidates and another 50,000 targeting candidates elsewhere.

I have no affiliation with them, but I would suggest SimplyHired.com as well. Like Indeed, they are a job “aggregator” or search engine, i.e. – the crawl jobs in much the same manner that Google crawls general websites, then have a number of features that make the job search process easy. Of course, as a firm believer in the shift toward “vertical” job boards, and the owner of a number of niche job boards, I always feel that highly-targeted boards are the best resources.
